The White Stripes fue una banda estadounidense de garage rock. Se formó en 1997 en Detroit, Míchigan, Estados Unidos por la pareja compuesta por John Anthony Gillis, mejor conocido como Jack White, (en la guitarra, piano y voz principal) y Meg White (en la batería, percusión y voz).
Forman parte del resurgimiento del garage rock de los años ‘60, caracterizado por su baja fidelidad de sonido y sus composiciones y arreglos simples inspirados principalmente por el punk rock, el blues, el folk rock y la música country.

Saltaron a la fama con la publicación de su tercer álbum de estudio White Blood Cells en 2001, y el lanzamiento de su siguiente material discográfico, Elephant de 2003, los consagró en la escena musical internacional. En toda su trayectoria han publicado un total de seis álbumes de estudio, el más reciente en 2007, un LP y 26 sencillos, con ventas aproximadas a los 11.5 millones de copias alrededor del mundo, de los cuales dos millones han sido en su país natal. El 2 de Febrero del 2011, el dúo anuncio que oficialmente dejarian de grabar y de interpretar musica bajo el nombre The White Stripes. The White Stripes was an American garage rock band. It was formed in 1997 in Detroit, Michigan, United States by the pair composed by John Anthony Gillis, better known as Jack White (on guitar, piano and vocals) and Meg White (drums, percussion and vocals).
They are part of the resurgence of garage rock of the '60s, characterized by low fidelity sound and simple compositions and arrangements inspired mainly by punk rock, blues, folk rock and country music.

Shot to fame with the publication of his third studio album White Blood Cells in 2001, and the release of their album material, Elephant, 2003, enshrined in the international music scene. Throughout his career have posted a total of six studio albums, most recently in 2007, an LP and 26 singles, with sales of approximately 11.5 million copies around the world, of whom two million have been in their home country . Each of their last three albums have won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. On February 2, 2011, the duo officially announced that they would stop recording and performing music under the name The White Stripes. This statement specifically denied any artistic differences or health problems, but cited "a lot of reasons ... primarily to preserve the beautiful and special band"
